What characterises a retro bike or city bike?
We have given special attention to the suitability to everyday use. Apart from your own experiences that you will gain from a test ride, the competent advice from your bicycle dealer and your own personal preference, the fourth cornerstone of the purchasing process is the suitability to everyday use – it is better when this is higher.
This has resulted in VICTORIA using the German road traffic licensing regulations (StVZO) as a benchmark. The equipment with
- lighting,
- reflective strips,
- at least two brakes working independently of each other,
- and a bell
is a prerequisite for us when it comes to everyday cycling. Not because it saves any discussion with the police, but because it is practical and ensures safety.
What light is fitted to the Retro bike by VICTORIA?
Whether a trekking bike, retro bike or eBike: To see and to be seen is the most important criterion for a bicycle in road traffic. This is why the VICTORIA Vintage bike and the Classic bike are fitted with LED lights that illuminate the road well and evenly. They last longer than halogen bulbs. Thus the risk is very small that the light will stop working while you are on the go. Invariably, a VICTORIA Retro bike is fitted with a hub dynamo, which provides power with any noticeable resistance.
Another standard at VICTORIA is the stationery light function for the rear light, so that you will be seen by other road users when you stop for example at a red light.
What brakes and tyres are available on our city bikes?
It is a fact that quality and good functionality should not be skimped, even at entry level. To this end, we use V-brakes on all of our city bikes. These are rim brakes with brake arms that are considerably longer than on cantilever brakes, which were previously used. V-brakes have now become part of the standard equipment. The benefit is apparent: The longer lever arms means its efficiency is simply boosted. Once a year, you should bring your city bike to your specialist retailer for a routine check-up. Here they can check the brake linings that are susceptible to wear due to the high efficiency of the brakes and the brake cables, and change the rims where necessary if these have exceeded the wear limit.
It is a similar case with the tyres. VICTORIA uses high quality tyres with puncture protection on all of its city bikes.
The differences between a nostalgic bike and the Classic bike
… are smaller than you think. This is because the basic set-up on both model lines focuses on the high level of comfort and the relaxed seating position. The resulting good-natured character is boosted by a comfortable sprung saddle and partially through the suspension forks used in the Classic series. The Retro bike line with on-trend nostalgic appearance relies on rigid forks that fit better into the overall concept.
